Filming Permits

The city of Bristol operates a permit system for all location filming and photography. Applications for a permit should be submitted to the Bristol Film Office as soon as possible by fax using the Filming Permit Application Form.

You should also read the Film Maker's Code of Practice, a useful guide to working in Bristol.

We also have a specifc Clifton Code of Conduct to accompany our general Film Maker's Code of Practice. Both documents should be adhered to when filming in the district of Clifton.

If you are employing children in your production you may need to apply for a license from the Education Welfare Service. Follow the link for the application form and further details.

Parking Dispensations

Bristol Film Office can help arrange for the suspension of certain on-street parking bays and car park bays around the city.

Parking Suspension Guidelines: This document includes important information about the procedures for securing parking suspensions in Bristol.

Parking Dispensation Request Form: Please complete this form and fax it to the Film Office at least 24hrs before parking suspensions are required.

South West Green Filmmaking Guidelines: South West Screen are the first screen agency in the UK to publish a set of Green Filmmaking Guidelines that have been adapted from Code of Best Practices in Sustainable Filmmaking; the work of the Bristol based wildlife producer, Andrew Buchanan, and Larry Engel, a US producer. Bristol Film Office will be working closely with South West Screen and production companies working in Bristol to implement green filmmaking practices based on these guidelines. Click here to read the guidelines in full or here for more information from the South West Screen website.

Filming at First Great Western locations: If you are interested in filming on First Great Western trains or at other FGW locations you should follow the guidance notes below and complete the Initial Enquiry Form. Please note that the form should be submitted directly to First Great Western (see enquiry form for contact details) and not to Bristol Film Office.
